Hello, Crafty Friends!

Well, looky what happened... I'm back again with Team Xyron for another term! Woohoo, I can't say enough how much I love this company! And the timing is absolutely perfect... February, the month of LOVE and Valentine's Day is just days away! Are you ready for it? I'm totally feeling the crafty love, especially from Xyron, with these LOVE Treat Boxes that came together in a cinch with the help of my Xyron Creative Station. Let me show you how!

First, I gathered my materials. My handy-dandy and always reliable Xyron Creative Station, DCWV's Minty Lace Stack, and Eileen Hull's Flower Pocket Die (one of my all-time favorites) by Sizzix.

This entire stack of paper is absolutely gorgeous! I don't know how it stayed in my stash so long untouched and unopened!! I know... all the paper-crafting gods are looking down on me in shame right now!

I chose two different patterns of paper. Like, the holographic hearts on wood grain and the subtle minty lace background. I cut them down to 6"x 8" and 6" x 5.5". Then, ran the pieces through my just one of those patterns through my Xyron Creative Station. Essentially, just adding adhesive to half of all my paper.

Then, I adhered those pieces to the other patterned papers to create two-sided pieces. If you already have a double-sided cardsock, you can skip this part. But keep in mind, you will need a Sizzix Extended Crease Plate to get the crease lines in your cuts.

I laid the paper I wanted to be on the outside of my box face down. Then ran it through my Big Shot machine.

 I folded my die cuts along the score lines, added a clear drying glue to the tabs, then adhered the pieces together.

Look how pretty those two patterns are together!

I wanted my boxes to be clean and simple. I was gifting them to children. So, with that in mind, I steered away from adding any small embellishments onto the boxes that may become a choking hazard.  

Instead, I went for a classic scalloped border and label. I used Eileen Hull's Scallop Border Movers & Shapers die on a Movers & Shapers Shuttle to cut strips of pink polka dot patterned paper.

 For the labels, I simply die cut white cardstock using the largest longest of the labels from Eileen Hull's Bookplates, Hinges, & Labels dies. Then topped it with the word love, from the Journaling Words die set, that I die cut from more pink polka dot paper.

I ran the borders through my Xyron 1.5" Sticker Maker and attached it towards the bottom of my boxes and trimmed off any excess that was sticking off the sides. 

The labels also took a trip through my "X". Then they were placed, front and center, on each box. 

How flipping adorable is this?

But why stop there? Since I didn't go all out with bells and whistles ON the box... I thought I could jazz it up by adding something IN the box.

Like... iridescent filler and ... a couple of decadent iced and sugared shortbread cookies!

Mmmmm... Delicious!! Way better than embellies, right??

Pineapple Picking (Paper Edition)

Hi, Crafty Friends! I'm baaaaack!! Back again with Team Xyron and lots of crafty fun!!

This week we'll be partnering up with Paper House and sharing with you all cool creations made with their awesome paper collections and Xyron adhesive.

Today, I'm feeling tropical! I took one look at these foiled sheets and just knew exactly what I was going to make!

I've always been an island girl. In fact, I was born on an island then raised on another island. In fact, if it weren't for meeting my husband, I'd probably still be there now. Growing up, when we would have P.E. class, we would do these exercises called "Picking Pineapples". It consisted of us standing with our feet spread apart, then bending over touching the ground 3 times with both hands, once in front, below, and slightly behind you. We called them "Picking Pineapple", the rest of the US probably knows them better as "Cherry Pickers"! LOL

So, after taking a trip down memory lane, I bring you my version of Picking Pineapples- Paper Edition!! No bending or sweating involved!! HAHAHA! Don't tell anyone but I sat on my butt the whole time!

I used papers from Paper House's Sun Drenched Paper Pad to create today's fun project.

I knew right away that I wanted to use Pineapple Box SVG file I had by Lori Whitlock.

 I loaded it into my software. and it looked like the picture of the left. I wanted at least cut two boxes from one 12"x 12" piece of paper. So, I resized it to 8.5" wide (with the keep proportions box checked). 

 I like to cut each like-colored shapes together. To do this, I right clicked and selected "ungroup". then removed the pineapple crown.

Then, I right clicked, clicked "copy" then clicked "paste". I rotated my second image so that both could fit the cutting mat. 

 I saw yellow and gold patterned paper in the pack and immediately it screamed PINEAPPLES at me!! The color and pattern were absolutely PERFECT!

I inserted it on my cutting mat into my machine and hit "cut".

I folded and creased all the crease lines and used my Xyron Tape Runner on all the tabs to adhere. This little guy packs some serious adhesive punch!!

Each pineapple needs 2 crowns. 1 regular and one mirrored. Just highlight what you want to be mirrored, right click, click "transform", then "flip horizontal (mirror)". Then multiplied as needed.

And as luck would have it, on the very next pages to my yellow and gold paper, this palm tree leaf/frond paper. I took each mirrored frond pair and attached them together with mire tape runner. Making sure to lay one regular cut and one mirrored cut back to back. Again, PERFECT!! Well, sort of. 

First, it needed a tad bit more color. So, I inked it with ColorBox Olive dye ink smoothed and evened out the color using my stylus tool. Now, look how gorgeous these crowns are!! And the fronds pattern gives them the look of textured leaves too!

Each box contains a slit on top. To add the crown to the box simply insert into the slit, fold back the crease line and adhere to the under side of the box lid.

And tah-dah... here are my awesomely funky pineaaple treat boxes...

I filled each of these with yummy chocolated but you can put whatever you like.

And these would totally be a hit at a Luau themed event or party!!!

Woodland Themed Treat Boxes

Happy Fri-YAY Crafty Peeps!!

I'm back again as Guest Designer for Sizzix today! This time, here at my own blog!

And today's project is sure to give you the "warm fuzzies"... because I made these adorable Woodland Animals Themed Treat Boxes!!

I decided to make the foxes first.  So I started by die cutting the main panels for the box (both the fox and owl use the same box base) and the tail out of patterned paper. You will need two of each. I like to double up my paper before running it through my die cut machine to get both set of cuts at the same time.

Then, I die cut the mask and eyes for the fox. You will need two of these as well, but one of the pieces have to be "mirrored". You can achieved a mirror cut by folding it your paper first and laying your die slightly passed the cutting blade on the nose... Or by die cutting your usually way (blade faced down on the patterned side of the paper) then cut another piece out (blade side down on the white side of the paper). Whichever is easiest for you. 

You will also need to cut 2 each of the eye pieces, a nose (I used the largest circle of the eye for this part) and a tip for the tail. I set this aside to assemble the box.

This part was so super easy! I simply folded on all the crease lines, added strong clear glue to the tabs, and adhered them together. Tab should be joined to a "non-tab" side of the other panel.

Someone once asked me how I ran my smaller pieces through my sticker machines... well, here's my little secret... I attach them face down onto blue painter's tape first!

 I make a tab on one end (so the sticker machine has something to grip onto. A piece of paper will work too) and then pull a whole line of tiny pieces through at one time. Then I burnish the back to make sure I got good adhesion, peel off the protective film, and gently pull the blue tape off. Now I have adhesive backed sticker ready to go!

Because this little dude has side tufts sticking off the side of the box I used more liquid glue to attach these pieces. Then covered up the cut ends with his little nose.

I layered his eye pieces and popped them into the eye holes.

Then attached the mirror pieces of the tail together and layered the matching tips, then glued it to his backside. You don't need to make the tails double sided but it looks more finished from behind if you do.

Now, for the owl!!

The base of the box is the same as the one above. The only difference is their little faces and what's attached to it's back.

To make the OWL you will need... One mask, one beak, two of each eye piece (whites of the eyes and irises) , and four wing (2 mirrored sets).

I start my owls by first attaching the beak with some glue. Then I ran the mask through my sticker maker. I forgot to run the eyes in at the same time so I just used liquid adhesive to pop them in place.

The edges of your masks should line up from tip to tip and side to side perfectly.

Glue the mirroring wing together and attach to the back of the box in a slight angle. I like to use the eyes as a point of reference on where to place the ends of my wings so that they look even.

I love how mixing and matching different patterned papers can get you several different looks. Here several different one that I have made.

And here they are all playing in the woods... just like little woodland animal should!

These favor boxes are absolutely adorable. You can fill them with your favorite treats and set them as party favors or... with Easter coming up they'd make a darling alternative to Easter eggs. How cute would these be hidden along the bunny trail?

Flower Basket Card

I am so excited to finally be sharing the first of (what I'm hoping to be) many projects featuring brand new soon to be released dies from Eileen Hull Designs and Sizzix! These dies are part of Eileen's new Heartfelt Collection that debuted at Creativation 2017!

For this project I used Eileen Hull's Basket die. This die was made to make a three dimension basket favor/ box. But , as you can see, I used it to make a great focal point as the focal point of my card front.

 Traditionally, you would cut out two sets of  your material to make a complete box. In this instance, I only used one set. I only used one front panel and one of the handle pieces (I snipped at the crease lines to make two handles).

I covered with patterned paper and inked the edges. 

Then fastened handles with brads.

 To accent my basket, I used the new Stitchy Flowers & Leaf Dies. I like to cut out several flowers at a time in different sizes. Sometimes I'm not sure how full I want each bloom to be.  So I always make it a habit to cut out more than I need.

I inked the all the edges so I don't see the white core of my paper and to add depth to the flower.

I add more depth and texture by shaping the petals then layering together and fastening with a brad.

For my card base I used the Scallop w/ Greeting Drop-In Die . This die come with a top mat with lacy eyelet holes. I ran a piece of craft foam through my Creative Station Lite and adhered it under the craft mat and then mounted it onto the card base.

I attached my basket onto the card then attached the flowers I made earlier on top of the basket using clear liquid adhesive.

I added leaves and hemp twine bow under the flowers. 

Then, I made a little tag that says "for you" and attached it to the front of the card to make it resemble a little flower arrangement gift basket.

Now this may not replace a real flower arrangement but at least they don't have to worry about watering it either! LOL

I hope this card gives you tons of ideas on how to use some of your favorite craft dies in a new way and think outside of the box every!

Christmas Tea Cup

Hello, Crafty Friends!! This Month DCWV & Eileen Hull Designs are proud to bring you a month long of creative and inspirational projects with our Winter Wonderland Blog Hop!! Join Team Eileen Hull (every Tuesday) and Team DCWV (every Friday) throughout the month of November.

Family traditions are always memorable. Many family traditions help us shape who we are and sometime who we will be. Growing up surrounded by my huge family, I remember many nights of late night cooking and sleepovers with my cousins. Followed by huge family gatherings where we stuffed our faces till we passed out on someone's living room floor.

Those days are long gone since I moved to Texas.

But often, new environments give way for new experiences, which in turn give way for new traditions. Now, we have fewer traditions. That doesn't mean that they are any less special but it does mean my holidays are less hectic... which I'm OK with! Hey, this busy mommy will take any break she can get!!

One holiday tradition I have grown to love is (this is on my hubby's side of the family) all the matrons/ aunts makes handmade gifts to share. Each makes a certain crafty projects,duplicates it in bulk, then gifts it to each family. Being the crafty nut that I am, I thought this tradition was FABULOUS!! Crafts can be as elaborate or as simple as you choose... again, FABULOUS! Because, let's face it, sometimes we just get too tired or too busy to come up with an extravagant gift each and every year!!

This year I'm thinking of meeting somewhere in the middle...

So, today I'm sharing this Christmas Tea Cup Party Favors!

I used DCWV's Cranberry Christmas for the majority of this project.

This stack is absolutely gorgeous and  includes many "foiled" designs!

I used Sizzix Matboard as my base. These come in a pack of 6 - 6''x13" sheets.

I started by cutting my tea cup pieces out of mat board using Eileen Hull's  3-D Tea Cup. I made sure to cut out an extra tea cup, one for the front of the box and one for the back... this was the only shape on the die I had to cut twice.

Then, I used the same die to cut the same pieces out of patterned paper. 

To get the reverse/ flipped version of the tea cup, simply flip your paper over and cut on the opposite or underside.

Here are my die-cut pieces cut from matboard. I needed the amount shown above (left)... a saucer(base), tag, 2 tea cups (mirrored images of itself), and the box.

I didn't need the flaps to the patterned paper box cut outs so I discarded them, then cut down that die-cut into segments where they are creased.

Next, I ran my patterned paper pieces into my Xyron Creative Station machine. Attached them onto their match mat board pieces, folded and creased the boxes' flaps (and set aside). Then sanded down the edges.

I die cut another more paper with a contrasting pattern. This time just the top half of the die cuts were cut out. Then I attached them over the existing pieces.

Then I adhered the pieces together with glossy accents. You can use hot glue if you prefer.

I embellished with flowers, leaves, stamen, and eyelash yarn.

 I embellished the cute little mat board tag with leftover paper I had used on the tea cup and added a cute leaping reindeer charm from Blue Moon Beads. I also cut out a snowflake from one of the sheets from the Cranberry Christmas stack.

I needed something to tie my bag off with. I really love the look of baker's twine but wanted something a little more bulkier, kind of like the rope around Santa's gift sack... I was able to replicate that by using Eileen hull's Twist and Style Tool.

I simply used 3 strands of bakers twine, knotted them on both ends, pull taunt, then cranked!!

I love how thick and lovely my twine rope turned out!! It made the great finishing touch on my Christmas Tea Cups!!

I can't believe something as simple as candy canes can look so rich and elegant!
