Bees Knees Artist Trading Box

Hey, Crafty Friends!!

It's another beautiful day to get crafty! And today I will show you how I created this beautiful bright and cheery Bees Knees ATB (Artist Trading Box)!

Let's get right to it!!

Today, I'll be playing with Eileen Hull's new Gift Box with Scallop Edges Die...

Along with DCWV's Honey Dear Stack.

I cut my patterned paper in half to measure 6" x 12". 

Then I ran both halves through my Xyron Creative Station Machine.

I peeled the protective film and attached each piece to a separate sheet of Sizzix Mat Board .

Once I attached my paper, I placed it faced down onto my Gift Box die and ran them both through my Sizzix Big Shot Plus.

I folded the die cuts on their creases. Each of these pieces creates one half of a box, hence, the need for two.

This box also cut out little labels and scalloped edges. I didn'

t use them for this project so I set them aside and saved them for a potential future project.

I added a string liquid adhesive onto the little flaps of one of my cut-outs. And attached it to the inside middle panel of the other.

I used a couple of mini clothespins to hold it securely in place while the glue took hold. 

Once it was dried, I attached the other ends with glue, again held it together with clothespins till the glue firmly took hold.

I left the top flap unattached so that I could still use it for a storage box.

I placed it aside to completely dry.

I painted 4 wooden dowel caps with white gesso and attached them to the underside of my box as feet.

I found this cute card panel in the Honey Dear Stack that I absolutely adored. It said, "You're the Bees Knees" with a picture of a beehive surrounded by an elegant frame.

I cut it out by hand with a scissor, attached foam adhesive tot he back, and attached it to the front of my box.

On top of my box, I attached an assortment of lilies, cherry blossoms, and a sweet moon rose.

Then I die cut one Skeleton leaf from gray cardstock. I cut it apart and made it into multiple mini leaves.

Then individually tucked and attached each leaf under my flowers.

Next, I die cut a couple of bee silhouettes using one of my Tim Holtz Entomology dies. I don't have the matching stamp set so I drew all the details by hand using a PITT Artist Pen.

I ended up not using the vellum one pictured.

Then colored in the bee using Distress Oxide inks in Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed,

Shaded Lilac, Black Soot, and a water brush pen.

I curled around a dowel rod a 3-inch piece of wire that was discarded from one of my flowers.

Then I ran my blank bee silhouette through my little Creat-A-Sticker and sandwiched the wire in between the two bee silhouettes.

Lastly, I tucked and glued the wire into my bed of flowers.

And here is my finished box...

I really love how this turned out!! That yellow is such a happy energetic color!!

This box is like a ray of sunshine and makes me want to smile each time I look at it!!

Vintage Spring Card

Hey, Crafty Friends!! 

I'm back from my trip and in full crafting gear for the new year! It's been kind of a warm winter with no hard freezes here so I'm hoping that means it will be an early spring for us! I can't wait till all the wildflowers are in bloom... it really is quite beautiful! Until then, I will have to create my own little flowery meadows in my craft room with my beautiful I Am Roses flowers...

I am absolutely in love with #10 sized cards!! The long slender look captivates the eye and draws you in. They are not your typical greeting card size yet ships for the same price as a letter because they fit right into legal size envelopes!

I used kraft cardstock for my card base. I cut my cardstock to measure 9 1/4" x 8 1/8" then score and folded it in half to measure 9 1/4" x 3 7/8".

To create a mat for my card, I trimmed a piece of paper from DCWV's Mariposa Stack to 8 1/8" x 3 5/8" and attached it to my card base using my Xyron Mega Runner.

Then, I ran my Mega Runner across the top and bottom of my mat and attached strips of lace trim.

I ran a 5" x 4 1/2" piece of cream cardstock through my Creative Station to add adhesive to the back. Then die-cut it using a Tim Holtz Doily die through my Sizzix Big Shot machine with a Standard Magnetic Platform (Optional- but it helps keep the die in place).

Then, I peeled the film backer and attached the doily to the center of the card.

I used White w/ Pink Edge Variegated Romantica Roses & Pink Curly Roses to create a vertical swag onto one side of my doily. 

Then, I surrounded my largest rose with pairs of Small Green Leaves both above and below it. Then added an extra leaf to each end of the swag.

I then nestled tiny White Achillea Cottage Flowers throughout, tucking them in between the flowers and over leaves.

Using my Cutterbee Scissors, I hand cut these beautiful glittered butterflies from one of the patterned paper sheets of the Mariposa Stack. Then used a Non-Stick Pencil Bone Folder to curl the wings.

I found the bigger butterfly to be too big so decided to just use the remaining small one.

I adhered the butterfly onto the edge of my doily as if it stopped for a little rest.

Then finally, added the phrase "use your wings" from the Tim Holtz Quote Chips to finish off my card.

And here is the completed card...

I love using I Am Roses VARIEGATED (two colors transitioning into each other) flowers. The variegated colors look natural and very realistic.

Look how absolutely stunning they are even up close!

Even the leaves have a brownish tinge to the tips for added realism.

I love how this card turned out! It's almost like I'll be sending a little bouquet in the mail!

A Springy HELLO

It's springtime!! Flowers are blooming EVERYWHERE!! Even in my craft room!!

I can't help but LOVE Spring!! What's there not to love? Winter gloom is disappearing and there's nothing I love more than flowers, flowers, everywhere!

I love to pick them, smell them, wear them, and of course, color them!

And today, I colored up a storm and create a floral card that's sure to brighten your day!

I started by cutting my tan toned mixed media paper down to 4"x 5.25".

I used the floral stamp from Lynda Kanase's Spring Phrases and mounted it to a clear acrylic block. I inked the stamp using Colorbox dye ink in Wicked Black to stamp a floral frame along the perimeter of my tan cardstock.

Then, I colored the floral images using my Derwent Inktense Color Pencils and blended out the colors using a water pen.

To make the stamen details pop, I used a Sakura white gel pen to add highlights.

I die cut these gorgeous flowers and leaves from Lynda's Spring Things die set from white mixed media paper. And then shaded them with my Inktense pencils and watercolored each die cut using my water pen.

While the flowers wet still damp and pliable, I creased and molded each flower then set them aside to fully dry.

Once they were dried, I used mixed media glue to layer and attach the flowers together.

Then finished water coloring the center of the flowers and the leaves.

 I die-cut the layered labels from the Spring Things set. Cutting the larger label in black and the smaller one in white.

I used my MISTI stamping tool to stamp the word Hello (from the Spring Phrases set) in Wicked Black ink. I chose to use the MISTI because quite often mess up on my sentiment stamping and this ensures that they always come out perfect.

Then attached my Hello label onto the bigger black one using my Xyron Mega Runner.

I attached my colored card front onto an A2 card base I made from 110 lb black cardstock. And then attached the label to the center.

I created a multi-loop bow from black twine and glued it to the upper left-hand corner of the label. Then glued the three-dimensional die-cut flower onto the center knot of the bow and tucked and glued the leaves and stems behind the flower. 

And here is my finished card...

DIY 3D Carrot Canvas

I may not be Peter Cottontail but spring has sprung and, hippity-hoppity, Easter is on its way! Before I start on making Easter baskets for all the little boys and girls (a.k.a. my children), I figured I'll set the mood by making a little Easter decor for my home first. So today I'll show you how I created this simple 3D Carrat Canvas.

Farmhouse chic decor can get on the pricy side. Let me show you how you can recreate the look using scrapbooking supplies... Believe it or not, this carrot is made from FLOWERS & LEAVES!! And **Spoiler Alert** this used less than 2 whole sheet os scrapbook paper!!

First, I gathered my supplies. I knew I wanted to make a canvas. something I could hang on my wall or place on a shelf or mantle. And I knew it absolutely had to have burlap. Burlap screams farmhouse and shabby chic! Then I threw in my love for all thing paper-crafty... bring on the paper stacks!! 

I found this Fall Basics stack from DCWV (yeah, yeah- I know Fall has long since past) but bear with me... this stack had tons of greens, yellows, purples, and oranges... the same colors we also find in Easter!! Score! These are PERFECT! Check your stash, you may have paper stacks that you can use for more than one occasion!!

Once, I had everything in arm's reach I prepped my canvas. No priming here!! I did, however, cut a 7"x 9" piece of burlap and ran it through my Xyron Creative Station and applied it directly onto the center of my canvas!

 I love the different plaid papers that came in the Fall Basics stack. These 2 sheets were deep shades of orange and green that would be absolutely perfect against the burlap.

I used Big Shot and this long stemmed leaf die from David Tutera's Greenery & Flourish set from Sizzix and die-cut 6 stem from the green patterned paper.

For a more natural look and to add depth I shaded the stems and the inner parts of the leaves with ColorBox Dyestress ink in Moss using a sponge dauber. Then shaped the leaves using a ball stylus from the McGill Paper Blossoms Tool Kit.

I free-hand cut out a carrot shape from orange cardstock. Then ran it through my Xyron Creative Station. This will give me a general shape of where to place my flowers. I attached it to my canvas and made sure to leave some room at the top for the stems. Then attached all 6 stems to create the carrot top.

I used the medium sized flower on the Eileen Hull Flower Layers w/ Heart Petals die and cut out about 24 flowers from the orange plaid paper. Then shaded the edges using ColorBox Dyestress ink in Tomato and a sponge dauber.

To add dimension to the flowers, I first folded the flower in half, and then half again. Then in each quartered section, I folded it into thirds. So when opened there's a crease line in between each little scalloped edge.

I used my Mega Runner and applied adhesive to half of each flower, partially folded the flower and attached the flowers into my carrot cut-out. I continued to fill the carrot with flowers but left a small section open at top to attach a bow I made with jute twine and a button.

And here is my finished 3D Carrot Canvas...

I love how darling it turned out...

And the dimension of those flowers really pops off the canvas! Picture does not do it justice!

I love to use my original MISTI to stamp multiple images. The larger platform gives me the flexibility to created larger or multiple projects by making more room to stamp everything all at once. Especially, without having to worry about an image not stamping all the way. If I mss up, all I have to do is re-ink my image, close the lid, and stamp again in the exact same place!! TAH-DAH, no mistakes!!

And each images comes out perfect!!
