Tower Card using Lynda Kanase's Window Box Impresslits

Hello, Crafty Friends. 

It's been a while but I'm back to with another card tutorial. Today, I'm here with the Lynda Kanase Design Team to share creations using her new Window Box Impresslits Embossing Folder.

The Impresslits folders are designed to cut and emboss at the same time. And the Window Box is the perfect size for A2 cards. But in this tutorial, I will show you how to I  extend my embossing and created this fairytale inspired tower card.

I started out with a 4.25" x 5.5" piece of Strathmore mixed media paper. I used Lynda's Window Box Folder and ran it through my Big Shot machine.

Then, I inserted a 2" x 4.25" strip of mixed media paper, placing it directly under the window. I repeated those steps 2 more times for a total of 3 strips.

I arranged the embossing so that the bricks would vary on what sides the fell on by flipping every other strip. 

I used Eileen Hull's Blends inks in Uniform, Nutmeg, Flagstone, and Ebony to ink and shade all the embossed stonework.

I accidentally got ink on my window shutters, so I used scissors to cut them off.

I also trimmed all the pieces down to be 3.5" wide.

Then, I die cut an extra window from white cardstock. I opened the window shutter with the assistance of an acrylic block. This helps ensure that my creases were folded nice and straight.

Next, I took my die cut shutters and inserted it into the window.

I secured the window in place using a Xyron Mega Runner. Then attached the window and the extra stone/ brick rows onto a #10 card base(9 1/4" x 7 3/4") made from 110 lb cardstock. I stamped my sentiment into the opened window using ColorBox Wicked Black ink. 

I die cut multiple leaves, flowers, & butterflies from more mixed media paper. I used Blends inks in  Leaf & Frog to color the leaves, Sunshine & Pansy to color the flowers, and Melon to color the butterflies.

I ran all the leaves through my Xyron X (150 Sticker Maker) and attached them onto the tower creating vines.

Then, I used a clear drying glue to attach the flowers and butterflies.

And here is my finished card...

I really love how this tower turned out.

The stonework in this embossing folder is absolutely gorgeous!

I love this sweet little dies Lynda included with this folder. It really adds so many beautiful details and makes projects come to life.

Blooming Mother's Day Card w/ Lynda Kanase's Card in Box Flower Basket Die

Hello, Crafty Friends!! 

Where has the time gone? It's Mother's Day tomorrow and for today's project, I have a tutorial for this gorgeous card I created for my mom using Lynda Kanase's Flower Basket Box Card die! 

I know what you're thinking... wait a minute, this isn't a box card! And you are absolutely right!! This card was made by using components included in the box card die set that make it super versatile. Let me show you how...

I started by making my card base.  I've been on a #10 card kick for a while. I think they are way more interesting than a boring 'Ol A2 card and it doesn't cost extra to send through the mail since they fit into a standard letter-sized envelope. So, YES, #10 cards are my jam!

To make the card base I used the following measurements...

White Cardstock Card Base- 9 1/4"x 7 3/4"

Striped Patterned Paper-

Green Geometric Pattern Paper- 

If at first glance you don't fall head over heels in love with this set, this right here may change your mind. This is the die-cuttable window die that comes included in the set. What is so awesome about this particular die is that it has no outer cutting edge, so it just cut out all those tiny little diamond shapes. And because of this, you can use this die to cut out one continuous background pattern. Which is what I did here to create this trellis for my flowers to climb.

Simply line up the die flushed against one side of your paper then die cut. Remove the die cut pieces, poke out any that didn't fall out, and reposition your die. Use the previous cut marks to line up the die for easy alignment. By using the previous cuts holes, you can make your pattern as long or as wide as you like! How flipping cool is that??!!

I trimmed the paper down and gave it a 1/4" lip one side and jagged edge and randomly cut edge on the other. 

 Then, I used my Xyron Mega Runner to adhere may card base together with my patterned papers and trellis onto my card.

Next, I die-cut Lynda's gorgeous flowers and leaves from this die set from Strathmore Mixed Media paper. This paper is very substantial, very thick, it is a 140lb weight,  and holds up amazingly to wet mediums. 

 I used Eileen Hull Blends to shade all my die cuts.

For the leaves, I used Leaf, Frog, Golden, and Nutmeg.

For the larger flowers, I used Uniform, FLagstone, and Ebony.

And for the smaller flower, I used layers of Sunshine.

 To give my flowers shape, I used my Stylus to make fine lines and crease on the backside of my flowers. Then on the front, I used the bigger ball on my stylus to roll a pitted center. Then attached my beads and rhinestones to the centers.

I arranged my leaves and flowers onto my trellis as desired. Then when I was happy with their placement I adhered them down using a clear drying glue, always starting with the leaves because those need be tucked under the flowers.

Then, using an acrylic block and I used the words "to an" and "mother" leaving an evenly spaced gap.

And on a separate piece of patterned paper, I stamped the word "Amazing" then hand cut it out leaving a thin border around the word. Then added foam adhesive to the back of the word and fitted it gap I left between the " to an" and "mother".

And here is my finished card...

I really love how this card turned out and I can't wait to give it to my mom and see her reaction.

A Springy HELLO

Hey, Crafty Friends! 

It's springtime!! Flowers are blooming EVERYWHERE!! Even in my craft room!!

I can't help but LOVE Spring!! What's there not to love? Winter gloom is disappearing and there's nothing I love more than flowers, flowers, everywhere!

I love to pick them, smell them, wear them, and of course, color them!

And today, I colored up a storm and create a floral card that's sure to brighten your day!

I started by cutting my tan toned mixed media paper down to 4"x 5.25".

I used the floral stamp from Lynda Kanase's Spring Phrases and mounted it to a clear acrylic block. I inked the stamp using Colorbox dye ink in Wicked Black to stamp a floral frame along the perimeter of my tan cardstock.

Then, I colored the floral images using my Derwent Inktense Color Pencils and blended out the colors using a water pen.

To make the stamen details pop, I used a Sakura white gel pen to add highlights.

I die cut these gorgeous flowers and leaves from Lynda's Spring Things die set from white mixed media paper. And then shaded them with my Inktense pencils and watercolored each die cut using my water pen.

While the flowers wet still damp and pliable, I creased and molded each flower then set them aside to fully dry.

Once they were dried, I used mixed media glue to layer and attach the flowers together.

Then finished water coloring the center of the flowers and the leaves.

 I die-cut the layered labels from the Spring Things set. Cutting the larger label in black and the smaller one in white.

I used my MISTI stamping tool to stamp the word Hello (from the Spring Phrases set) in Wicked Black ink. I chose to use the MISTI because quite often mess up on my sentiment stamping and this ensures that they always come out perfect.

Then attached my Hello label onto the bigger black one using my Xyron Mega Runner.

I attached my colored card front onto an A2 card base I made from 110 lb black cardstock. And then attached the label to the center.

I created a multi-loop bow from black twine and glued it to the upper left-hand corner of the label. Then glued the three-dimensional die-cut flower onto the center knot of the bow and tucked and glued the leaves and stems behind the flower. 

And here is my finished card...

Paper Pieced Sloth Belated Birthday Card

Hello, Crafty Friends! 

Wow, has it been a while! Spring has crept its head and is finally here! Here in Texas, it went from freezing temps to rain. Warm humid air and...yup, rain... and lots of it! Which just set off a chain reaction that made every flower, weed, tree, and grass send blooming clouds of pollen into the air that has my eyes, nose, and throat hating me right now. You know what I'm talking about... the dreaded seasonal allergies!!

Allergies hit pretty bad and put me down and out for a bit. And it made me miss events and even birthdays. No one likes to miss out on anything let alone birthdays. So for today's project, I'll show you how I made this paper pieced Sloth and created a Belated Birthday Card.

I gathered my supplies. I wanted my finished card to be 5"x7". So, I started by first creating the background, I cut a piece of light green cardstock to measure 4 1/4"x 6 1/4". Then I lightly misted it with water. I inserted into this 3D Tropical Leaves folder and ran it through my Big Shot with a multi-purpose platform on Tab 1 and only 1 clear plate.

 Spraying your paper before you run it through will hell the fiber to relax while it's being embossed. It helps prevent tearing and gives the embossing a crisper impression.

Then, I inked over the entire raised image using my Eileen Hull ColorBox Blends ink Leaf. These inks have built-in applicators so you can ink directly onto your paper.

There's no need to wait for the ink to dry either. Next, I applied Golden lightly throughout. Followed by Nutmeg around the edges.

While the ink was drying, I worked on my sloth. I used this adorable Sloth die from Sizzix to die-cut cardstock in 3 shades of brown (light brown, brown, and dark brown). Then shaded all the die cut pieces with Nutmeg ink.

 I ran the smaller pieces through my Xyron 3" Sticker Maker and adhered his little face onto his body. Then used a fine line back pen to draw his eyes and used a make-up brush to dust his cheeks with chalk and added highlights with a white gel pen.

I wanted more of a jungle feel to my card so I die-cut these monstera leaves from moss green cardstock using 2 of Lynda Kanase's Tropicool sets (listed in supply list above).

 I inked over the edges using Eileen Hull Blends Inks in Frog for a big pop of green.

With my Sloth and Background taken care of, I assembled my card...

I cut my card panels and pieces to the following sizes...

  Card Measurements:

Base- 5"x7"

Corrugate- 4 3/4"x 6 3/4"

White Cardstock- 4 3/8" x 6 3/8"

Embossed Background- 4 1/4"x 6 1/4"

I wanted a focal point without blocking all that beautiful embossing. So I used the largest Tim Holtz Stitched Ovals to die-cut vellum.

 Then ran it through the Xyron Creative Station Lite. It gave edge-to-edge coverage that made the adhesive virtually invisible behind the vellum.

I die cut a label using Eileen Hull's Bookplate, Hinges, & Label dies from white cardstock. 

And I found the most perfect sentiment in my Sloths stamp set from Pink and Main. It read... "I'm a little slow, Happy Belated Birthday". It was just too perfect so I stamped it in Wicked Black ColorBox Dye ink. 

Look how adorable the finished card turned out...

Sometimes we're late. Sometimes we miss Birthdays. Thankfully, we have creative ways to make up for it!

I started with one 6" x12" piece of black chipboard. Then cut it down to 3" x 8.5" for my base. The black chipboard is really striking but needs to be "prettified"... And these luscious papers from Graphic 45's Floral Shoppe Collection are absolutely PERFECT!! And what's even more fantastic is that these papers are double sided!! **SQUEAL**

I trim my Floral Shoppe patterned paper down to 3" x 8.5" strips. You'll need 2 strips to cover each chipboard base. And because these papers are double sided you can use the same sheet of paper to get different looks on each side.

I ran the strip through my Creative Station Lite machine. But since my strips were only 3" wide I opted to save on adhesive and switched out my usual 5" cartridge with a smaller 3" one. Perfect!! No waste! I love that the Creative Stations are versatile and I can pick and choose the best size cartridge to fit my project size.

Once my strips were run through the Creative Station, I applied them directly onto the black chipboard. One pattern on each side. Then I made a tough decision... which side was to be my cover... I love pink but this time those flowers won my heart!

Using Lynda Kanase's Card Slider Die, I faced the paper pattern side down. You'll see on the die it has two sections... one with one crease and the other with three. I positioned my material faced down against the cutting blade onto the side of the die with just one crease blade. 

I ran it through my Sizzix Big Shot machine.

Oh my... It's beautiful already!! And that was just covering it with paper!

Then, I took a nail file and sanded down the edges.

For the pop-up function, you'll need another  (Yes, a third) 3" x 8.5" strip of coordinating paper. This time place it faced down against the side of the die with 3 crease blades. You'll be able to see and count the raised areas on the die. Remember, there are blades under that foam so please handle with extreme caution!

Once the strip is die-cut with crease marks, fold along the crease lines to form a "W".

I used my Xyron Mega Runner to attach each folded end to each card flap. You do not add adhesive across the whole die-cut just the two ends up to the crease lines. Then attach them by matching up the ends. 

It should form a square when opened up to a 90-degree angle.

It's almost ready!!

The front covers need just a little love...

These Tags & Pockets and Chipboard pieces are absolutely amazing! 

I took this tag and layered it onto a piece of leftover scraps and hand cut a border around it. Then punched a hole at the top and tied crinkle ribbon onto the tag.

Then added some "homemade" foam adhesive to the back for a little dimension.

And, by the way, foam adhesive is so easy to make! Just take pieces of craft foam sheets and insert it into your Xyron. Run through. Trim. Flip over and run through again! Easy Peasy!! Never run out of foam adhesive again!!

Lastly, I added premade paper flowers with clear drying glue.

And presto...

I kind of went nuts with these... 

They were too gorgeous to just stop at making one!! And with how easy they all came together, I'd be crazy not to make more!

They are a great addition to my gift giving arsenal. I'm gonna make sure I have lots of these on hand. Especially with Christmas around the corner!! This definitely took my gift card game to the next level!!

Just open it up and slide your gift card into the slit. When the recipient open it, it will automatically raise the card out!! How cool is that??!!
