Tower Card using Lynda Kanase's Window Box Impresslits

Hello, Crafty Friends. 

It's been a while but I'm back to with another card tutorial. Today, I'm here with the Lynda Kanase Design Team to share creations using her new Window Box Impresslits Embossing Folder.

The Impresslits folders are designed to cut and emboss at the same time. And the Window Box is the perfect size for A2 cards. But in this tutorial, I will show you how to I  extend my embossing and created this fairytale inspired tower card.

Supplies Used

Big Shot (Sizzix)

Lynda Kanase Window Box Impresslits Embossing Folder (Sizzix)

Eileen Hull ColorBox Blends Inks- 

Frog, Leaf, Pansy, Melon, Sunshine, Ebony, Nutmeg, Flagstone, Uniform (Clearsnap)

ColorBox Premium Dye Ink- Coal (Clearsnap)

Mega Runner (Xyron)

X 150 Sticker Maker (Xyron)

Mixed Media Paper (Strathmore) 

110lb White Cardstock (Recollections)

Paper Trimmer (Swingline)

Clear Stamp (Crafter's Companion)

Liquid Glue

I started out with a 4.25" x 5.5" piece of Strathmore mixed media paper. I used Lynda's Window Box Folder and ran it through my Big Shot machine.

Then, I inserted a 2" x 4.25" strip of mixed media paper, placing it directly under the window. I repeated those steps 2 more times for a total of 3 strips.

I arranged the embossing so that the bricks would vary on what sides the fell on by flipping every other strip. 

I used Eileen Hull's Blends inks in Uniform, Nutmeg, Flagstone, and Ebony to ink and shade all the embossed stonework.

I accidentally got ink on my window shutters, so I used scissors to cut them off.

I also trimmed all the pieces down to be 3.5" wide.

Then, I die cut an extra window from white cardstock. I opened the window shutter with the assistance of an acrylic block. This helps ensure that my creases were folded nice and straight.

Next, I took my die cut shutters and inserted it into the window.

I secured the window in place using a Xyron Mega Runner. Then attached the window and the extra stone/ brick rows onto a #10 card base(9 1/4" x 7 3/4") made from 110 lb cardstock. I stamped my sentiment into the opened window using ColorBox Wicked Black ink. 

I die cut multiple leaves, flowers, & butterflies from more mixed media paper. I used Blends inks in  Leaf & Frog to color the leaves, Sunshine & Pansy to color the flowers, and Melon to color the butterflies.

I ran all the leaves through my Xyron X (150 Sticker Maker) and attached them onto the tower creating vines.

Then, I used a clear drying glue to attach the flowers and butterflies.

And here is my finished card...

I really love how this tower turned out.

The stonework in this embossing folder is absolutely gorgeous!

I love this sweet little dies Lynda included with this folder. It really adds so many beautiful details and makes projects come to life.

Canvas Art Using DIY Foil Paper

Hello, Crafty Friends! It's been a while since I've been crafting. I took a short break to take care of my son had surgery on his leg. He's getting better tons better and his poor little leg is getting stronger every day. Which is just in time too! Warmer weather has been peeking its head and soon Spring will be here. And you know what that means... lots of flowers blooming!!

So, to celebrate Spring's arrival, I created this Flower Bloom Wall Art Canvas using...of all things... wait for it... Aluminum Foil!!

Yup, the same stuff you wrap your leftovers with! I used this kitchen staple and made my own DIY SHEET METAL EMBELLISHMENTS that look and feel like, well, metal!! Unlike the foiled cardstock from the craft store, which is just a thin plastic coating. 

AAANNND, it die-cuts like a dream!!

Textured Impressions Plus Embossing Folder- Botanical Swirls(Sizzix)

16"x 20 " Canvas

Gesso (Liquitex)

Black Chalkboard Paint (Prima)

Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil

Clear drying liquid Adhesive

I started my project with a plain 16"x 20" Canvas and applied a coat of gesso. Most canvases come pre-gessoed but I like to add an additional coat anyway, it seems to help my paint go on smoother and helps spread my paint further (at least it does to me, anyway).

I zapped the canvas with a heat gun to speed up drying time.

Then, applied a layer of black chalkboard paint over the entire surface (including the sides).  Then zapped it again once more.

Here is where it gets really good...

I knew I wanted to make metal embellishments but didn't want to just run the foil through my Xyron. NOPE, it would crinkle up in a heartbeat! Even though I used HEAVY DUTY FOIL, IT still didn't have that heft and standing power that I wanted.

So, to firm things up a bit I attached the foil to 110 lb cardstock. Nice, thick, and sturdy 110 lb cardstock!

I simply ran each individual sheets through my Creative Station, peeled the film backer, and attached the sheet to the aluminum.

 When attaching sheets of adhesive start from one end and kind of roll it toward the other end. If you attach straight down you are a more likely to catch air bubbles. 

Smooth out any tiny lumps and bumps with a rubber or silicone brayer.

Look how shiny and smooth it is!! Ooooh, pretty!

Next, I cut my sheets to die-cuttable sizes. I'm saving myself a lot of tears by die-cutting all my petal pieces instead of cutting them by hand. I once hand cut 50 take out boxes for a birthday party once, um, yeah, NEVER AGAIN!!

I had bruises and calluses for weeks. My poor hands took a nasty beating! I'm so glad someone invented die-cut machines and dies! ENTER the Big Shot Machine ...

I knew I wanted "petals" but didn't have any huge petal dies. So, I used an Eileen Hull Leaves Die instead. I die-cut out the foiled sheets then cut off the little stem.

 I also knew I wanted more texture (just not the crinkly kind) to my petals. So I loaded up this HUGE Texture Impressions Plus  Botanical Swirls folder with all my little stemless leaves. This time using my Big Shot Plus machine. These embossing folders were just way too big to fit through my regular Big Shot!

 These metal sheets even emboss like a dream!!

And look how well the stitched details show up on these Tim Holtz Stitched Circle Dies! I used this die cut as the center of my bloom.

Starting from the center, I attached the petals with liquid adhesive smallest to largest and worked my way outward.

I made sure to continue even along the sides of the canvas. Anything left overhanging got a bent and tucked over the side and glue down in place. With small children in my house, I didn't want to worry about any sharp edges. So tucked away they went.

The embossing in person is absolutely STUNNING!!

HAnd here's my final piece. Already up and mounted on my wall!

This cad is a standard A2 (4.25" x 5.5 ") size and I sized the mistletoe to 3.75" wide. I made sure to have the "Keep Proportions" box checked so that the height automatically adjusts.

To create this box, I sized it to the widest I could on a single 12-inch piece of paper. 

Then, sized my mistletoe file to 3" wide, again setting it to "Keep Proportions" to automatically adjust the height.

3D Embossed Chipboard Card- How's It Growing?

Happy Hump Day, Crafty Friends!! 

How's it growin', everyone? LOL Sorry, I couldn't help myself! This is such an awesome pun! And it goes perfectly with today's project. I'm here with Team Xyron. And all week long we will be playing along with Acco Brands to feature some amazing projects that we can create using their fabulous Swingline line of trimmers and staplers. 

Today, I created a beautiful garden on chipboard.

I love using chipboard to add dimension to my projects. Most times I die-cut chipboard or use it to lift die-cuts and other embellishments up off my projects. But this time I'm giving chipboard dimension. By embossing right into the chipboard.

Distress Inks- Peeled Paint, Wilted Violet, Picked Raspberry, Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade (Ranger Ink)

Momento Tuxedo Black Ink (Tsukineko/ Imagine Crafts)

 But first thing's first. I need to cut my chipboard down to a workable size and with the Classic Cut Lite Guillotine Trimmer, trimming chipboard is a breeze. This trimmer can cut up to 10 sheets of cardstock at a time. So, it cut through this sheet like a hot knife through butter! 

 I cut my chipboard down to 4.75" x 6.75". Then, used Crafter's Companion 3D embossing folder, Ornate Lace, and ran it through my die-cut machine. Once embossed, I inked the entire chipboard using Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks in Fossilized Amber and Spiced Marmalade.

 After the chipboard was completely inked, I ran it through my Xyron Creative Station Lite. 

Even after I cut through chipboard, this trimmer cuts smoothly through cardstock. I trimmed a card base out of marigold cardstock and each cut was still crisp with NO FRAYED EDGES!! 

Wow, I'm totally impressed!

I mounted my embossed chipboard onto a 4-7/8" x 6/78" piece of white cardstock, then attached it to a 5" x 7" card base using my Xyron Mega Runner.

I die-cut various flowers from white cardstock using the Tim Holtz Wildflower die set and shaded them using Peeled Paint, Wilted Violet, and Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Inks.

I used tiny dabs of glue to secure onto the card front.

Then stamped my sentiment from the Pink and Main Funny Farmer stamp set using Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a strip of white cardstock. Then used my Swingline Stapler to attach it to the front of the card.

Again I was most definitely impressed... The staple not only went through the white cardstock but also the chipboard and 2 more additional layers of cardstock as well! This thing is HEAVY DUTY!! I am totally loving it!!

And here is my finished card...

Meowy Christmas!!

Meowy Christmas, Crafty Peeps!! We only have a little over a week to get those Christmas cards out and I'm back again with another holiday card inspiration for you all!!

Today, I'm using this adorable set from Pink and Main called Santa Paws.

The puns in this set are too cute and funny!! They're just as cute as the characters in the set!! It's filled with cute little cats, dogs, and all things christmas-y!!

I stamped my image with dye based Black ink. Then colored them in using colored pencils.

Once colored, I used the matching Santa Paws Dies to cut them out.

For the card base and the inner embossed rectangle I used Pink and Main's Stitched Rounded Rectangles.

For the circle window cut-out, I used the Stitched Circle Dies.

For the circle window cut-out, I used the Stitched Circle Dies.  Just a quick tip... assemble you card first. then die-cut your window out. Once you have a window you can place your die cut image into the window. Mount with foam adhesive and attach to the inside of the card.

I absolutely love the stitching in these dies!! And, just a heads up... the stitching even holds up after embossing!! How awesome is that?!!
