Winter Love - Mixed Media Layout

Hello, Crafty Friends... I have been taking a really big interest into the mixed media world and have  been dabbling a lot with different techniques. Like my mom always said, " you have to try everything at least once to decide if you like it or not".

And, with that, I'm going to dive right in! No hesitating. No turning back. 

 Let's get ready to rumble!! Yup, Mixed Media is about to go down!! 

This just got real! I'm about to get dirty...Oh no!! I hate getting dirty!!

First, I took a mini frame

 and remove the backing from it. It is easy to do with the help of your die-cut spatula. Just slide between and across. Try to remove as much excess cardboard as possible. This helps minimize the bulk of the frame.

 Now, I painted my whole frame with gesso and let dry. You can use a heat gun to speed this step along.

Then I sprayed my gessoed frame down using Clearsnap's Mermaid Spritzer. Once dried I used a sponge dauber and the darkest color from my ColorBox Aurora Petal Point to rub the raised areas. Dried the ink using my heat gun and then applied silver from my ColorBox Enchantment Petal Point to go over the dark color I just rubbed on. 

The silver over the black really makes the silver pop!

Then I heat set again with my heat tool.

I set my frame aside and custom colored my poinsettia flower. I love buying just white flowers and embellishments for this very reason. I can custom color everything to fit my needs. Because this is fabric, it takes a much longer drying time than paper. You can help it along with a heat gun but will still need quite a bit of drying time still.

Be careful when using your heat gun at all times! Objects get very hot!

While I was waiting for my poinsettia to finish drying I moved onto my paper. I cut an 8"x8" sheet of Pebbles Shiver paper and  distressed the edges. Then, I sponged on a huge flower onto the background using my Bloom stencil and the teal colors from my Aurora ink pad, I also went along the distressed areas with the same ink.

Then I ran that piece through my Xyron Creative Station. I also cut out random strips from more Pebbles paper and inked the edges of those strips as well. Then I tore a ripped out pages from an old book of sheet music and inked the edges of those as well. I distressed all the edges on my pieces with the same teal colored ink. Once all my pieces were dry they all took a quick ride through my Xyron Creative Stations and Sticker Makers.

I used a 12"x12" sheet of corrugated cardboard by DCWV as my base of my layout and randomly dry brushed gesso onto it.

Once dried, I just peeled and stuck my different panels onto the corrugated cardboard base. 

I added some Pebbles Snowflake Chips onto my layout using Diamond Glaze.

And then, made splatters using my spritzers. I just simply removed the covers and tap the cap to make the dye ink drip off the straw. OOhhhh, I likey!!

For inside my frame I cut out 3 die-cuts of the word "love" from craft cardstock using my Teresa Collins pocket die. Glued and stacked them all together and then inked them... again using the same dark teal color from my Aurora Petal Point ink pad.

For the final touches, I tucked and glued cheese cloth for a bit of texture. To add more texture I used more Diamond glaze and made strategically placed swirls and then covered them with micro beads.

And here is my finished layout...

And then the easiest part was just hot gluing all my pretty elements.

I can't tell you how much I am in love with this frame!!

And I love how the micro beads almost look like an extension of my glittered spray stems.

life is good ballerina

Hey, Crafty Friends!! We're having gloomy weather down here in the south. So, I am taking a short break from holiday crafting to bring you this bright and cheerful card. Hopefully, it sheds a little bit of sunshine because who couldn't use a little sunshine, right?!

For this card, I used Oak Tree Stamps' Moody Ballerina stamp set. This is such a darling set. I know it pretty much sums up all my moods! LOL

I started by stamp my little giggling ballerina with Tuxedo Black ink. I used my Spectrum Noir colored pencils to outline my ballerina. Then using my tortillion blending stumps and gamsol I blended the colors out.

I used the little star stamps that came in the Moody Ballerina set and the pink section of my Brilliance ink pad to stamp stars around my little girl.  

Then I used my Classic Ovals to die cut her out. I also die-cut a pink mat for my oval using my floral ovals set.

Then I die cut the "life is good" phrase from white cardstock. I ebrushed half my phrase using a soft baby pink sharpie.

To make sure these don't go anywhere, I ran all my pieces through my Xyron Creative Station with a 5" permanent refill cartridge. This ensures that my pieces don't go anywhere.

I created an A2 (4-1/4"x 5-1/2") sized card base from green cardstock.

 The white mat measures at 4-1/8"x 5-3/8".

Sprinkles paper measures at 4" x 5-1/4".

The star strip on the bottom measures 1-1/2"x 5-1/4".

The ricrac ribbon measure 5-1/4" long.

I ebrushed my sprinkles paper with a brown Sharpie around the edges. And ebrushed the stars paper with an orange Sharpie.

Then, I assembled my card panels using my Xyron Mega runner and attached the ricrac using Diamond Glaze.

I cut an assortment of stars from pink and blue patterned paper using my Sizzix Nested Hanging Stars die.

And used a glue pen to attach them to my card. Now I can attach my sticker I made from my ovals and phrase onto my card, layering them over my stars, then trimmed off the tips that overhung the edges of the card.

I topped my ballerina with a double loop twine bow and attached it with Diamond Glaze. Then added pink glittered enamel dot throughout my card.

Little Ballerina

I start off by stamping my image with Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto Canson 150 Illustration paper. Then I color my image with my Spectrum Noir markers.

SKINTONE : FS4, FS6, FS8

 HAIR: TN1, TN3, GB1, GB2

CLOTHES:CR3, FS8

For her eyes I decided to switch to my Le Plume II markers... they're dual tip and one tip is super fine. Perfect for doing the small spaces in the eyes.

I usually stamp m ore than one image at a time... just in case I have an "accident". It's great to have another image as a back up. Then I used my precision tipped scissors to fussy cut my image. 

Then I used the second largest circle in my Spellbinders Beaded Circles set to cut Pink cardstock. For some reason it looks beige in the picture but that could be due to my lighting... it is pink, I promise! LOL

Next I used my Marvy 2 1/8" Circle punch to cut a circle to layer onto my beaded circle.

Then I quickly ran it through my Xyron 3" Sticker Maker... peeled and stuck it onto my beaded circle. Then I added foam adhesive to the back of my little ballerina and attached her to my circle.

For my Card base I made a standard A2 (4 1/4"x 5 1/2") sized card. I embossed the front panel with this adorable star patterned embossing folder from Darice.

I cut a pennant using the second largest pennant die from my Spellbinders Baby Bunting set.

I used my Xyron Mega Runner to layer it over a piece of teal cardstock and fussy cut about a 1/4" border around it. 

Then I adhered my layered pennant onto my card base.

 I attached my beaded circle to the pennant leaving a small gap at the top. In this area I attached a simple bow made from pink polka-dot grosgrain ribbon with a bit of Diamond Glaze and let dry.

For a final touch I adhered a group of glittered enamel dots at the bottom of one of my pennant tails

And here is my final card!!

First, I stamped my little ballerina and sentiments using my Momento Tuxedo Black ink pad onto Canson Illustration paper. I colored it in using Spectrum Noir Markers in FS4 and FS6 for the skin tone; PP1, PP2, and PP4 for the tutu and shoes; for her hair GB7, EB4, EB6, TN9. I also colored the music notes in PP4.

Then I cut her out using an oval die. This die came included with the Best Wished Floral Frame set. I used blue painters tape to ensure that it would stay in place. I used the tiny ticket die from my Blueprints 14 set to cut out my wording. This little die fit perfectly around all the words and phrases in the Moody Ballerina set.

Speaking of the Floral Frame Set... this frame set is made by Scrapbooking Made Simple and it is just too GORGEOUS for words!! The picture do not do it justice!! Anyhooo, I used it to cut my black cardstock but my black cardstock seemed kind of on the thinner side so I cut 2 frames out.

Then I used my  glue pen to adhere to my patterned paper.

Then I fussy cut a thin shadow using my scissors... it was at this point I actually glued the second frame over the first.  

Then I adhered my glitter ribbon to the card front using my Xyron Mega Runner. 

Then I took my cut out image and added foam adhesive dots to the back to raise it the card front. Then I made a bow by making loops and fishtails out of more glittered ribbon and adhering them together with 3D Crystal Lacquer.

I made an A2(5.5"x4.25") sized card base out of pink striped patterned paper by Bella Blvd. I then adhered a 5"x 3.75" polka dot paper (also by Bella Blvd) mat to my card base. And lastly, I adhered my framed piece to the rest of the card.

And here is my finished card...
