Vintage Spring Card

Hey, Crafty Friends!! 

I'm back from my trip and in full crafting gear for the new year! It's been kind of a warm winter with no hard freezes here so I'm hoping that means it will be an early spring for us! I can't wait till all the wildflowers are in bloom... it really is quite beautiful! Until then, I will have to create my own little flowery meadows in my craft room with my beautiful I Am Roses flowers...

I am absolutely in love with #10 sized cards!! The long slender look captivates the eye and draws you in. They are not your typical greeting card size yet ships for the same price as a letter because they fit right into legal size envelopes!

I used kraft cardstock for my card base. I cut my cardstock to measure 9 1/4" x 8 1/8" then score and folded it in half to measure 9 1/4" x 3 7/8".

To create a mat for my card, I trimmed a piece of paper from DCWV's Mariposa Stack to 8 1/8" x 3 5/8" and attached it to my card base using my Xyron Mega Runner.

Then, I ran my Mega Runner across the top and bottom of my mat and attached strips of lace trim.

I ran a 5" x 4 1/2" piece of cream cardstock through my Creative Station to add adhesive to the back. Then die-cut it using a Tim Holtz Doily die through my Sizzix Big Shot machine with a Standard Magnetic Platform (Optional- but it helps keep the die in place).

Then, I peeled the film backer and attached the doily to the center of the card.

I used White w/ Pink Edge Variegated Romantica Roses & Pink Curly Roses to create a vertical swag onto one side of my doily. 

Then, I surrounded my largest rose with pairs of Small Green Leaves both above and below it. Then added an extra leaf to each end of the swag.

I then nestled tiny White Achillea Cottage Flowers throughout, tucking them in between the flowers and over leaves.

Using my Cutterbee Scissors, I hand cut these beautiful glittered butterflies from one of the patterned paper sheets of the Mariposa Stack. Then used a Non-Stick Pencil Bone Folder to curl the wings.

I found the bigger butterfly to be too big so decided to just use the remaining small one.

I adhered the butterfly onto the edge of my doily as if it stopped for a little rest.

Then finally, added the phrase "use your wings" from the Tim Holtz Quote Chips to finish off my card.

And here is the completed card...

I love using I Am Roses VARIEGATED (two colors transitioning into each other) flowers. The variegated colors look natural and very realistic.

Look how absolutely stunning they are even up close!

Even the leaves have a brownish tinge to the tips for added realism.

I love how this card turned out! It's almost like I'll be sending a little bouquet in the mail!

Tower Card using Lynda Kanase's Window Box Impresslits

Hello, Crafty Friends. 

It's been a while but I'm back to with another card tutorial. Today, I'm here with the Lynda Kanase Design Team to share creations using her new Window Box Impresslits Embossing Folder.

The Impresslits folders are designed to cut and emboss at the same time. And the Window Box is the perfect size for A2 cards. But in this tutorial, I will show you how to I  extend my embossing and created this fairytale inspired tower card.

I started out with a 4.25" x 5.5" piece of Strathmore mixed media paper. I used Lynda's Window Box Folder and ran it through my Big Shot machine.

Then, I inserted a 2" x 4.25" strip of mixed media paper, placing it directly under the window. I repeated those steps 2 more times for a total of 3 strips.

I arranged the embossing so that the bricks would vary on what sides the fell on by flipping every other strip. 

I used Eileen Hull's Blends inks in Uniform, Nutmeg, Flagstone, and Ebony to ink and shade all the embossed stonework.

I accidentally got ink on my window shutters, so I used scissors to cut them off.

I also trimmed all the pieces down to be 3.5" wide.

Then, I die cut an extra window from white cardstock. I opened the window shutter with the assistance of an acrylic block. This helps ensure that my creases were folded nice and straight.

Next, I took my die cut shutters and inserted it into the window.

I secured the window in place using a Xyron Mega Runner. Then attached the window and the extra stone/ brick rows onto a #10 card base(9 1/4" x 7 3/4") made from 110 lb cardstock. I stamped my sentiment into the opened window using ColorBox Wicked Black ink. 

I die cut multiple leaves, flowers, & butterflies from more mixed media paper. I used Blends inks in  Leaf & Frog to color the leaves, Sunshine & Pansy to color the flowers, and Melon to color the butterflies.

I ran all the leaves through my Xyron X (150 Sticker Maker) and attached them onto the tower creating vines.

Then, I used a clear drying glue to attach the flowers and butterflies.

And here is my finished card...

I really love how this tower turned out.

The stonework in this embossing folder is absolutely gorgeous!

I love this sweet little dies Lynda included with this folder. It really adds so many beautiful details and makes projects come to life.

My Favorite Xyron Tool & Giveaway

Hello, Crafty Friends!

Can you believe it's a new year already?!! Sadly, with the beginning of this new year, my term with Xyron is at its end. This will be my last post for the term and I can't thank Xyron enough for having me on their design team for another wonderful year!

To celebrate my 4 years with Xyron I decided to do a GIVEAWAY...

As our last assignment, we were to create a project using our favorite Xyron product. And I must say that this tool is one of the most used tools in my arsenal! It's portable, versatile, and has a Big Sister...

This little baby can make stickers and magnets and laminates too!

And so, for my last project for this term, I created a card to show my appreciation...

I wanted this to be a tall #10 sized card... I often get bored of making A2 (4 2/4"x 5 1/2") sized ones and sometimes an A7 (5"x 7") just won't cut it. Bigger is better, right?!!

So, I start off by creating my card base. I folded my black cardstock in half lengthwise. Then cut it down to 9 1/8" x 4". 

Then trimmed a sheet of corrugated cardstock down to 3 7/8"x 9".

Next, I ran the corrugated cardstock through my Xyron Creative Station Lite and adhered it to the front of the card base.

Using a Sizzix Big Shot and Eileen Hull's Journaling Cards, Hearts and Credit Card Sleeve & Tags, I die cut 2 scalloped rectangles and 1 rounded rectangle from patterned paper from the Mariposa Stack.

I shaded the edges of the die cuts with Tangerine ink form the Colorbox Chalk Petal Point and a Blending Stylus.

I also die cut 6 floral stems from Black cardstock using the Floral Arch die and 4 stemmed leaves using the Leaves, Spring die from white cardstock.

I die cut leftover patterned paper using Eileen Hull's Journaling Cards, Flowers & Leaves to cut 2 batches of flowers. I inked them with Lipstick Red ink from the Chalk Petal Points. Then added dimension and shape to the flower petals by rolling a stylus over the back of the flowers. I layered the flowers and adhered them together using clear liquid glue. I finished each flower off with a flatback pearl center.

I also die cut 4 leaves from green cardstock. Then added little details using my stylus.

To mount my journaling cards to my card front, I ran them through my Xyron Creative Station Lite. Because the corrugate is very textured, I wanted to be sure that my die-cuts had an edge to edge adhesive... But because these had a smaller surface area, I decided to switch my 5" cartridge out for my 3" to avoid any unnecessary waste.

Before I attached the last journaling card I arranged and tucked my floral arches and stemmed leaves behind the journaling card and adhered them into place.

I found this "I am thankful for you" phrase from Tim Holtz's Ideology Small Talk stickers and thought it paired beautifully with the word "Friend" from Eileen Hull's Floral Arch die set. 

I finished the card off by adhering my finished flowers, leaves,  and a crinkle ribbon bow.

Wow, look at all the gorgeous detail!!

I really love all these textures!

And the black and white cardstock really pop against these neutral colors!

Botanical Hello Card

Hello again, Crafty Friends!! 

 Today is just another HOT day and I'm not enjoying all the heat. It seems like we went from WINTER to SUMMER and totally bypassed SPRING. I don't know about you but I feel cheated... hmph!!  And now that summer vacation is over here I am sooooo looking forward to some FALL... BRING ON THE SWEATER WEATHER!! The scorching 100+ degree temps have killed nearly everything and are just about to take the last of my grass. I can't wait for Spring to roll back around and we can get back to the blooming flowers and gorgeous colors. I love the way walking into a garden makes me feel with its beautiful foliage, birds chirping, and delicate butterflies fluttering. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait till next year! 

Or... create my own garden!! 

Yup, my mind is set. I will create my own garden... out of paper that is! 

So, for today's project, I made this gorgeous botanical card., complete with lush foliage and butterfly!

For my card base, I wanted my card to have a natural and organic feel. So I mounted a 4 3/4"x 6 3/4" piece of natural corrugate onto a 5"x 7" card base made from white cardstock.

I used my Big Shot machine and Tim Holtz's and Stitched Rectangles to die cut paper from DCWV's Meet Me In Paris Paper Stack. This stack is very romantic, with neutral tones and lots of florals, and pops of pinks (my favorite color in the whole wide world). 

I used the reverse side of one of my papers to cut this stitched border from the Stitched Ovals set and attached it along the sides of my rectangle cut-outs.

Since my pieces need be attached to corrugate, which is an uneven surface, I want to make sure it stays put. So, I run both rectangles through my Xyron Creative Station for maximum adhesion.

Then apply them to my card front along with 1/4" strip I die-cut using the stitched borders from the Stitched Rectangles set.

I die cut assorted leaves and stems from green cardstock using Tim Holtz's Funky Florals #1 and Funky Florals #3 sets. Then, shaded the edges with green and brown from my ColorBox Boardwalk Petal Point Ink Pad.  For areas of the stems, I used a paintbrush to shade into the that were too thin and narrow to color with a big sponge.

I die-cut these pointed petal flowers from the Funky Florals #3 set from pink cardstock and their stamen from dark pink shimmer cardstock. I inked and blended the edges with Bubblegum ink from the Doodlebug Petal Point.

Then attached the stamen centers with a glue pen.

Once the glue was dried I added more dimension by shaping my flowers with a ball stylus. Then attached another set of stamens onto it.

I added a dollop of fabri tac to the centers of the flowers then poured seed beads onto the wet glue and set them aside to dry.

While that was drying I die-cut my butterfly using Tim Holtz's Detailed Butterflies, Mini dies from more dark pink shimmer cardstock and brown cardstock.

Using flicking strokes with a white opaque marker, I gave my butterfly a bit of detail.

I attached the detailed overlay and brushed some Wink of Stella over top.

I die cut the word "hello" using Tim Holtz's NEW Shadow Script #2 dies and attached it onto a stitched oval.

Then gathered all my die-cut elements to build onto my card base. I used fabri tac glue to attach the stems and leaves first. The layered my flowers, sentiment, and butterfly. Then lastly, tucked in a bow made from hemp twine.

And here is my finished card...

I love how dreamy this card is!

Those shade of pink really pops against all those neutral colors.

And check out how stunning that butterfly turned out!
