Brush Blending With Ink Pads

Happy Monday, Crafty Friends!
I'm kicking off the start of a brand new week with Xyron and Clearsnap today.  And I've got a quick and easy technique to share with you that is sure to make your crafting world a whole lot brighter!

Background dies have been gaining popularity. These dies make card making a breeze and with some plain white paper and a few inks you can customize your cardstock with fun results!

Supplies Used
Stephanie Barnard Color Box Premium Dye Ink - Candy, Tangerine, Lemonade, Kiwi, Grape (Clearsnap)
Big Shot (Sizzix)
Mega Runner (Xyron)
110 lb White Cardstock (Recollections)
Brights Brads (Recollections)

I started by running pieces of 4.25" x 5.5" white cardstock through my Xyron Creative Station Lite. I die cut the piece using my Stephanie Bernard Friends Dies twice. Then layered them together.

I pressed some color from my Stephanie Bernard ColorBox Premium Dye Ink Pads onto my work surface. Then used a make-up brush to apply color onto my die cut.

I put a strip of each color down one at a time making each strip about an inch wide, starting dark at the bottom and blending the color light at the top. I repeated this step for each color. Starting with Kiwi, then Lemonade, then Tangerine, next Candy, then lastly, Grape.

I overlapped each color to blend where they meet instead of having a harsh line.
I used the solid background die to die cut a backing for my "worded" background.

I applied brads to the die cut flowers in the background. then peeled the adhesive backer and applied my color die cut onto my glitzy/ glittery cardstock. Then burnished it for maximum adhesion.

Then, I used my Xyron Mega Runner to apply the card front onto a standard A2 (4.25" x 5.5"- folded) card made from white cardstock.

Look how stinkin' cute this is!!

Rainbows are always super fun and always make me happy but the fun doesn't stop there...

I tapped down more color onto my mat and decided to do a triad of colors.
And instead of putting them in any sort of order I decided to just go nuts a brush on bursts of color here and there... going laying them down totally at random.

Again finished it with coordinating brads and backing it with more glitzy paper...

**Squeal**

I'm on a roll!!

For the next sample, I used just one color...

This time, I laid it on dark around the perimeter, then dragging and blending in the color in lightly.
a good makeup brush will blend out softly and look like your color was airbrushed on.

My rule of thumb is... if it can blend on your makeup beautifully, then it'll blend on paper just as beautifully!

For this last sample, again I started dark around the edges but lightened my blending and I went in towards the center. The only difference, I also darkened all the flowers.

These are just crazy easy and the glitzy cardstock gives them a touch of glamour! The bling really makes all the colors just pop even more!

I love how they all turned out! and I love how smoothly the colors blended!

I can't wait to make more!

Hope you liked today's quick project and it inspires you to give it a try!

Until next time...
HAPPY CRAFTING!!

Tropicool Greetings- Hello Card

Hey, Crafty Friends!
Summer is at its end and the summer heat is finally dying down. That doesn't mean we can't still can't take advantage of all this beautiful sunshine. Its rays are inspiring and its vibrancy, mesmerizing! I'll let all that light soak in and fill me with joy. I find that people are often the product of their environment and are often what they surround themselves with. And personally, I LOVE to LOVE. I love to feel HAPPY. I love to LAUGH. I love ENERGY. I also find that when I'm filled with those things and give off those things, the people around me do too.

Today, I'm sharing some LOVE with this BRIGHT & CHEERFUL Tropical Tucan Card using dies from Sizzix's Tropicool Collection by Lynda Kanase.

First, I gathered my materials...

Supplies Used
Big Shot (Sizzix)
Lynda Kanase- Tropicool Banner (Sizzix)
Lynda Kanase- Card Front, Tropicool Leaves (Sizzix)
Stitched Ovals (Sizzix)
3D Textured Impressions- Tropical Leaves (Sizzix)
ColorBox Premium Dye Ink Pads-  Olive, Coral, Pewter, Black Bean (Clearsnap)
ColorBox Petal Point- Enchantment, Boardwalk (Clearsnap)
Cardstock- Gray, Moss Green, White, Yellow (Open Stock- Hobby Lobby)
Vellum (Open Stock- Hobby Lobby)
Mini Spray/ Misting Bottle
Makeup Brush
Liquid Glue
Hemp Twine
Seed Beads
White Gel Pen (Sakura)
Heat Tool (optional)

I started by spritzing down a 4.25" x 5.5" piece of white cardstock with clean water. Then, inserted it into the Tropical Leaves Textured Impression folder and ran it through my Sizzix Big Shot.

I removed it from the folder and let it dry. Then, applied Lettuce ink from Clearsnap's Boardwalk ColorBox Petal Point with a Colorbox Stylus and Tip.

Then, applied Olive (also from the Boardwalk PetalPoint) just over the raised areas.

I die-cut tucan pieces and monstera leaves using Lynda Kanase's Tropicool Banner dies by Sizzix.

I die-cut the majority of the tucan from a light gray cardstock then added depth by inking and shading the body and wing. I used a ColorBox Stylus and Tip to apply Pewter ColorBox Premium Dye Ink all around the perimeter. Then darkened the shading by adding Black Bean ink on the edges using a ColorBox Art Dauber.

I die cut the feet and beak from yellow cardstock then shaded it with Coral ColorBox Premium Dye Ink

When the ink was completely dried, I layered and assemble the paper pieces to create the tucan. Then, I added foam adhesive to give the wing dimension.

To finish the tucan, I used a white gel pen to draw highlights.

I die-cut the monstera leaves from green cardstock. Then, shaded it with Olive ColorBox Premium Dye Ink using a ColorBox Stylus and Tip.

I used the hibiscus die (also included in the Tropicool Banner set to cut white cardstock. I shaded the centers using Pink from the Enchanted ColorBox Petal Point and a small makeup brush.

Once the centers were completely dried, I spritzed each flower with water using a mini mister. Then, I twisted each petal to add texture and heat set them to hold the added dimension.

I layered and adhered 2 flowers together using a clear drying liquid glue. Then added a dollop to each center and sprinkled on seed beads.

The beads were set once the glue turned clear.

I wrapped twine across the top of my card and tied it into a bow.

Then, die-cut an oval from vellum using Sizzix's Stitched Ovals. I ran the oval through a Xyron Creative Station Lite and adhered it directly to the embossed card front.

I added small strips of foam adhesive to the back of the monstera leaves then positioned them around the oval.

I added more foam adhesive behind the tucan and attached it over the leaves. Then attached the flowers with liquid glue.

Finally, I die-cut my cards sentiment out of white and black cardstock. I used the "hello" die from Lynda Kanase's Card Front, Tropicool Leaves set and layered the two pieces together and slightly overlapping one of the die-cuts to give the appearance of a shadow.

And here is my finished card...

I hope you enjoyed this card and the rest of his summer weather because Fall will be blowing in real soon!

Until next time...
HAPPY CRAFTING!!

Watercoloring with Derwent Markers

Hello, Crafty Friends! I'm back again with Team Xyron and we are winding down our week-long partnership with Derwent Academy!

Don't let their name fool you, because they offer so much more than pencils! Derwent makes an array of art supplies to suit your skill level. Ranging from the average hobbyist and beginner to the more skilled fine-tuned artist.

Today, I'll show you how I used Derwent's water soluble markers to create the gorgeous watercolored card.

First, I gathered my supplies.

Supplies Used
Crafter's Companion- My Sunshine Stamp Set
Pental Arts Aquash Water Brush
DCWV Printed Corrugate
Brown Cardstock (Open Stock- Hobby Lobby)
Heat Tool

The focus of my card is all about the image.  I cut a piece of watercolor paper from Derwent Academy Marker Paper Pad. I cut a sheet from the pad down to a 4.25"x 5.5" piece of paper. I used ColorBox Archival Dye Ink Pad- Wicked Black to stamp the flower images onto the paper. I focused my stamping on the side and the corners diagonal from each other.

I used my glass crafting mat as a palette and scribbled a patch of color from my Derwent Academy Art Markers onto it. Then with a water pen, I picked up a bit of color and applied it to my image. I try to apply color a little bit at a time and build layers. That way I don't over saturate my paper and cause unnecessary bleeding.
If you are limited in marker colors, like me, and still want to add extra depth to your image, try layering over your colored image with pencils. I used Derwent Academy Watercolor Pencils to add warm orange and brown tones to deepen my image. Because these are water soluble
I can blend the color out or if I wanted to, use them dry for more detailed coloring.

I used the broader tipped side of the Derwent Academy Twin Tip Markers to scribble this beautiful orange color to create a color washed background.

I used a heat gun tool to set the colors and thoroughly dry my card front.

Once completely dried, I added shimmer to my flowers with Smooch. I used Greeple Apple on the leaves, Siren on the base of the shadows, and Sundance in the center of the largest bloom. Then hit it with the heat tool one more time.

Then, I used Pink and Main's Rounded Stitched Rectangles Dies and Sizzix Big Shot to die cut my image out to have detailed stitching. I also die cut a larger mat from printed corragate cardstock.

Next, I stamped my Happy Birthday Sentiment onto my cardfront with more Wicked Black ink using my Mini MISTI Stamping Tool.
I zapped with a heat tool again before sending it through my Xyron Creative Station Lite and a 3" Permanent Refill Cartridge.
Once, the pieces were layerd together it was too large to fit through my 3" refill so I opted to attach my layered pieces to a standard A2 Card base with my Xyron Mega Runner

Then, I used more Sundance Smooch to add golden dots to give it a marquee lights sort of look.

And here is my finished card...

I didn't want to detract from the beautiful image and all the coloring so I optd out of adding any extra embellishments.

I think the coloring draws they eyes in all by itself.

I love how simple and gorgeous this turned out! I hope you did too!!

Until next time...
