DIY Laminate Earrings Using Die-cuts

Hello, Crafty Friends!! I'm back with team Xyron again and this week we are getting our creative juices flowing crafting with laminate! Yup, laminate! It's not just for protecting documents anymore!!

And today, I will be showing you how to make laminate earrings using die-cuts from cardstock... Yes, cardstock!!

Supplies Used
Big Shot (Sizzix)
ColorBox Premium Dye Ink- Olive, Deep Sea (Clearsnap)
Tacky Glue
Makeup brush
Piercing Tool
Round Nose Pliers
Metal Earring Findings
Twine (optional)

These earrings were ridiculously easy to make. If you are a scrapbooker or card maker, you may already have some of these tools! As an all-around crafty gal, my Big Shot and Creative Station Lite are my best friends. But did you know they're not just for card making?

When you hear the words paper or die-cuts I bet jewelry is far from your mind. I hope today's project changes your mind!

First, using the Tropicool Twist die set by Lynda Kanase, I die-cut gecko and palm leaf shapes from random scraps of paper. These were literally just lying around and were leftovers from a previous project. I cut 4 of each die-cut, 2 cut regularly and 2 cut with the image in reverse (mirrored).

Then, I shaded my geckos. I squished a bit of  ColorBox Deep Sea Premium Dye Ink and used s make-up brush to lightly blend the color over it.

I repeated the same thing steps onto the palm leaves using ColorBox Premium Dye Ink in Olive.

Then, adhered the two sets of shaded die-cuts back to back with their matching "mirrored" die-cut.

I ran the sandwiched die-cuts through my Creative Station Lite with the 5" Two-Sided Laminate Refill inserted. And hand trimmed the excess laminate from the die-cuts.

I layered my geckos onto the leaves and glued them in place. Be sure to use a glue that is made to adhere to plastics. Otherwise, you may not get good adhesion and your piece may peel off.

I used my "pokey" tool to pierce holes at the top of my leaves. I opted not to punch holes with a hole punch because even my smallest hole punch was too big and would have left a sizable hole that way weaken the structure of my earing and rip right off.

I didn't want that... and I think you might not want that either.  So I just pricked a tiny hole on each, slipped on a jump ring, then attached earing hooks using my round nose pliers.

And check out how cute these little guys are...

As a final touch and for beautiful gift giving I used another die, this one from Eileen Hull's Bookplate, Hinges, & Label die set, to create the earing backer.

They almost look enameled.

How super-duper easy were these?!!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and give laminating crafts a try!

Until Next Time...
HAPPY CRAFTING!!
