Wave Journal

Hey, Crafty Friends!! I'm back with the Eileen Hull Inspiration Team today and this month's theme is the Gret Outdoors!

I'm not a "woodsy" or "camping" type of person. Growing up on an island, my idea of the outdoors was the beach and the ocean. So today I created a simple Wave Journal. There is something so calming and relaxing about the sound of the ocean and waves crashing on the shore. It's one of the many things about home.

Supplies Used
Eileen Hull Journal Die (Sizzix)
Big Shot (Sizzix)
Mat Board (Sizzix)
Blending Tool (Ranger Ink)
Wave Stencil (The Crafter's Workshop)
VersaMark (Tsukineko/ Imagine Crafts)
Clear Embossing Powder (Judikins)
Cardstock- Assorted Blues (Core'dinations)
Ideaology- Hitch Fasteners (Tim Holtz )
Heat Tool
Piercing Tool (aka- pokey tool)
Paper Trimmer (Swingline)
Bonefolder
Long Reach Stapler
Clear Drying Liquid Glue
Clothespins- OPTIONAL
Elastic Cord
Charm

I started by cutting two panels from Mat Board using Eileen Hull's Journal Die. Then, I attached them together using a clear drying liquid glue to attach the spine together making sure to align the holes in the cutouts. I also used clothespins to pinch the pieces together until the glue set. The clothespins are completely optional but it helps to save time by freeing up your hands.

Once the glue was set, I placed the Wave Stencil over the cover (laying it open and flat) and inked VersaMark directly onto the entire surface of the mat board. I wanted one continuous to stretch out over both the back and front covers.

Then, I pour clear embossing powder over the entire stenciled image, dusted off the excess, and heat embossed it with a heat tool.

I applied a series of Distress Oxide Inks over the embossd image.  Tumbled Glass and Peacock Feathers (for the sky), and Mermaid LagoonSalty Ocean, and Blueprint Sketch (for the waves).

The waves look absolutely amazing!! I love it already!

Next, I die cut two more cover panels. This time, instead of Mat Board, I used blue cardstock. I then trimmed off the spines into segments and ran all my pieces through my Xyron Creative Station and attached them to the inside of the cover.

I did this after stenciling because I knew I was going to ink up the cover and didn't want to accidentally get them inked or smudged.

Then, I used my piercing tool to poke a hole through the front cover and screwed in a Hitch Fastener.

I threaded elastic cording through the hole located in the center of the spine, threaded through my charm, then looped around the front to create a closure for my journal. Then just hooked it onto the hitch.

For inserts, I cut sheets of graphing paper down to measure 8" x 8.5". I folded them in half so that they were 4" x 8.5" - folded then inserted the papers into a sleeve made from blue cardstock of the same size. And then I stapled the group together using a long reach stapler.

I threaded more elastic cording onto the spines. Nothing fancy here. Just single strands, knotted. Then I slid each book/ insert under the elastic to hold them in place.

And here is the finished journal. It's super simple. Very modern and zen... just like the ocean itself.

I love this charm I found. I cant remember who made it but I do kniw i found it at a Hobby Lobby a while back and it had been sitting in my stash ever since. It has a quote from Alice in Wonderland's Through the looking glass... somewhat Alice's character said her father would always say.

Love it!!

Then, of course, the continuous waves that wrap around the back, around the spine, and then around front...

There you have it...
my Great Outdoors... a trip to the sea on the cover of a journal.

Daydream Mini Beach Canvas

Hey Gang!!
It's summertime and scorching hot! Anyone else dreaming of the beach?!
Today, I made this adorable mini canvas for my sweet friend that has a beach house (wink, wink... you know who you are!!). She's been visiting it more frequently and really enjoying her time away and all the tranquility so I made her this cute wall hanging to remind her of her happy place.

Let me show you how I created it...

Supplies Used
4" x 6" Canvas (Dollar Tree)
Mat Board (Sizzix)
Eileen Hull - House Ornament Die (Sizzix)
Eileen Hull - Grass Die (Sizzix)
Eileen Hull - ColorBox Blends Inks-  Hydrangea, Uniform, Bay, Beach, Frog, Leaf, Stop, Pansy, Golden, Nutmeg ( Clearsnap)
Eileen Hull Molten Dimensions -  White Wonder (Emerald Creek)
Butterfly Stamp Set (Clearsnap)
Top Boss Embossing Pad (Clearsnap)
ColorBox Embossing Powder - Black (Clearsnap)
White Gel Pen (Sakura)
Misti Stamping Tool (My Sweet Petunia)
Heat Tool

I started by stamping my image onto my mini canvas with embossing ink. I found these cute little canvases from  Dollar Tree. They came in a pack of 3 for a buck, how flipping awesome is that?!!

Since canvas is very textured already, I wanted to ensure my images stamped out completely so I used my Misti tool just in case My stamped image was missing parts of the image I could re-stamp it without messing it up. I took out the black foam insert before stamping. The canvas is a way thicker material and if I didn't take out the foam the panel wouldn't close.

I used the clouds stamp from the Butterfly stamp set and stamped the image UPSIDE DOWN... who knew clouds upside down can look like waves!! I think it's so cool when you can get multiple uses out of craft supplies. I pored Eileen Hull's Molten Dimensions in White Wonder and heat embossed the shore break. Look at all that gorgeous texture!

Then, I inked the "waves" in  Bay & Beach, "sand" in Golden, and "sky" in Hydrangea & Uniform.

I die cut 4 mini houses out of Mat Board using Eileen Hull's House Ornament die.

I inked them in a variety of Blends inks and pick out the most vibrant ones. I ended up choosing Stop, Pansy, Uniform, and Leaf.

Then used a white gel pen to add the roof and window details.

I ran my little houses through my Xyron X and adhere them to black cardstock. Then fussy cut the houses out.

I thought my sentiment needed to be just as bold as the houses so I stamped and heat embossed it with black embossing powder.

I die cut grass from a leftover scrap piece of green patterned paper, inked up the edges using Frog and Nutmeg ink.

Then cut them down into smaller segments and ran the pieces into my sticker maker (Xyron X machine) and adhered them onto my houses and canvas.

How flipping adorable are those little beach cottages??!! I'm dying from overexposure to cuteness!!

Lastly, I glued on jute twine all along the edge of the canvas to give a more coastal vibe.

And here is my finished project...

I really love how this turned out... especially those waves!! That Molten Dimensions powder really added so much depth and texture to my ocean!!

I hope you enjoyed today's tutorial and are inspired to create your own little canvas masterpiece!

Stop for topping by!

Until next time...

Warm Wishes with DIY Puffy Stickers

Hello, Crafty Friends!
I'm back with Team Xyron to bring you some summertime inspiration.

My kids are officially on vacation mode and home. This mommy couldn't be happier. When I was growing up summer always started out kind of sad. The last day of school usually ended up with lots of goodbyes and sometimes lots of tears too. Sometimes friends move away. For a child that can be a bit rough.

What helped me a lot was a few of my dearest and sweetest friends wrote to me the entire summer after my family moved. Reading their notes was like having them there beside me.

I am so glad that I encourage my children to write actual letters to their friends. It helps them stay close to their besties without being attached to a cellphone or computer for a change. And... it brings back fond memories of my childhood for me.

For my Xyron post this week, I made this adorable summertime card with a super quick and easy trick to make homemade puffy stickers.

Supplies Used
Sunkissed Greetings (Pink and Main)
Big Shot (Sizzix)
Stitched Circle Dies (Pink and Main)
Stitched Greetings Dies (Pink and Main)
Take Flight (Pink and Main)
Beach Babe Paper Pad (Pink and Main)
Mega Runner (Xyron)
VersaFine Onyx Black (Imagine Crafts/ Tsukineko)
Clean Color Real Brush Markers (Zig/ Kuretake)
Double Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon
White Craft Foam Sheet
Mixed Media Paper
White Cardstock
Clear Liquid Adhesive

First I stamped my image onto mixed media paper with a black archival ink. Then I colored my images in using watercolor markers. I blended out the color using a water brush then added more layers of color for additional shading.

Once my image was done being colored I die cut the image out using the matching die. I also used the matching die to die cut a sheet of craft foam.

*QUICK TIP*
Die cut the image and foam layered together for a more rounded edge.

This is what gives them a 3D appearance, turning them into puffy stickers.

I ran the colored image through the Xyron Creative Station Lite, adhered to matching foam cut out, then ran it through again to create an awesomely huge puffy sticker.

I used a 5"x5" (folded) plain white cardstock, for a card base.

I die cut a stitched square and semi-circle out of patterned paper. I attached the semi-circle to the square using my Mega Runner. I also laid down a strip of adhesive and ran grosgrain ribbon across the front, then trimmed the ends.

I attached my puffy sticker to the card front then ran the entire card front through the Xyron Creative Station Lite. Then attached to the 5"x5" card base.
I stamped my sentiment with more black ink. Then Die cut the sentiment and craft foam using an elongated oval die. I ran both pieces through a 3" sticker maker, laid them, then attached to the front of my card.

Lastly, I attached a simple bow.

And here is my finished card...

I'm feeling happy just thinking about the expression on my friend's face when they receive this card.

I hope you enjoyed my project for today!

Now, go out there and write to a bestie today!
